The Imbassaí-river, also called the Barroso-river, is the fountain of the village. It creates a diverse environment, shallow and narrow in some places and in others wide and deep. In most places it's water is crystal-clear and thanks to the wise use by the locals it is not polluted. Since the introduction of some tourist investments from environmental agencies, a close eye is kept on any possible pollution of the river .
There are no constructions on the banks of the river. Only a couple of small beach-huts are allowed on the sand where the river meets the ocean.
It's not so long ago that the only way to get on the beach, was passing through the river. There was (and still is) a possibility to cross the river in a 'jangada', a small wooden raft. Recently a small bridge over the river was inaugurated.
You can easily see shoals of small fishes and many locals can point you in the direcion of a 'pitú' (kind of enormous crayfish) or shrimps.
The river is a perfect place to swim without any danger. During the last miles of its course the river banks boast rich flora and fauna.

It is worth doing a beautiful and relaxed kayak trip down the river. >>Learn more bout the trip>>
